Proceco offers several types of equipment to clean aircraft wheels and brakes: from batch-style washers for low production requirements to fully automated inline wash conveyors for higher productions.

  • The PROCECO TYPHOON®-AWW aircraft wheel washer is designed to process one wheel hub at a time mounted on a fixture. During the washing cycle, the wheel hub rotates and is sprayed from top, bottom, and sides. At the same time, a rotating brush removes rubber residues from the wheel.

    The PROCECO TYPHOON®-HD turntable washer configured for aircraft wheels cleans multiple wheel hubs loaded on a fixture. During the washing process, high-impact jets spray the hubs from bottom, top and side to remove soils. The TYPHOON®-HD is also the perfect solution for washing aircraft wheel brakes and associated hardware.

    A PROCECO inline conveyor washer is ideal for high production requirements. Hubs loaded on the conveyor pass through a high-pressure wash equipped with a spinning nozzle arrangement that ensures cleaning solution will cover the entire surface of the wheel hub to remove tenacious soils.

    All of the washers described above include a rinse stage to remove chemical residue. Other options such as blow-off and dryer stages are available to improve the overall performance of the equipment.

Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI) is a process used to detect cracks in components. This process consists of cleaning the workpieces and then applying a penetrating dye. The dye penetrates any cracks that may be present in the workpiece. The dye remaining in the cracks then becomes visible when inspecting the workpiece under a black light.

  • The FPI process starts by cleaning and drying parts, followed by applying a penetrating dye. Excess penetrant is then removed from the part surface leaving only penetrant in any cracks that may be present. A developer is then applied to the parts, further exposing penetrant remaining in cracks. Following this process, personnel carry out a manual inspection of the parts under a black light, which reveals any surface imperfections.

  • FPI is carried out on new manufactured components or as part of the overhaul inspection of used aircraft components. FPI allows detection of surface flaws on components that make them unsuitable for use.
